Elementary Programs (K to Grade 7)

At AVS, we respect parents as integral members of the educational team. AVS support teachers work closely with our families to create individual learning plans that match the Ministry of Education’s prescribed learning outcomes. To achieve success, covering the required curriculum, AVS offers the most up to date Ministry of Education approved resources chosen from a wide variety of publishers and programs. For many of the K-7 subject areas, AVS Support Teachers have created comprehensive resource packages that cover the required outcomes on a term by term basis. All packages and resources are chosen collaboratively with our families during the learning plan meeting. In addition to a wide variety of approved resources, individually created programs to meet outcomes, AVS created outcome packages, and support teachers with experience teaching the grade specific outcomes, AVS also offers our students:

Access to the following online programs to enhance learning in many subject areas:

  • Optional subscription to Successmaker Online (Gr. K-7)
  • Optional subscription to Rosetta Stone online second language program (Gr. 5-7)
  • Free access to Discovery Network online Streaming Videos
  • Free access to Brainpop
  • Free access to Read Naturally Software program
  • Some optional grade/subject, AVS created online courses for primary and intermediate grades
  • Free access to Educational websites such as EdHelper, Enchanted Learning, Reading A-Z
  • Free access to World Book online through Abbotsford School District password

To enhance learning opportunities:

  • Organized Educational Field Trips
  • Weekly classes (covering P.E. and using technology to master curricular outcomes)
  • Weekly Art Classes covering prescribed learning outcomes
  • School gatherings to celebrate student achievements (Science Share and Fine Arts Share)
  • Social gatherings (Welcome and Year End BBQs)
  • Family Skating Days
  • Family Swim Days
  • Tutoring Support in specific subject areas
  • Optional grade/outcome specific classes and workshops
  • Access to an Educational Resource Allotment (available to student enrolled by Sept. 30th) to supplement program delivery subject to support teacher approval
